100 Years of Rubber
It is certainly very unusual for a company not yet five years old to be celebrating a centenary. Nevertheless, that is precisely the position LANXESS is in. When our company was founded, we inherited a legacy that dates back over many years. In 1909, synthetic rubber was invented by chemist Fritz Hofmann of Elberfelder Farbenfabriken, one of the antecedents of LANXESS.
LANXESS - world's biggest manufacturer of synthetic rubber
LANXESS, the world's biggest manufacturer of synthetic rubber, is breaking ground for the construction of a new butyl rubber plant in Singapore. The facility on Jurong Island is designed for a capacity of 100,000 metric tons per year and will require an investment of up to EUR 400 million (USD 575 million). Between 10 and 15 percent of the total investment for the plant, the most modern of its kind in Asia, will go into environmental protection measures.
