LANXESS in China - Research & Development and Innovation hub


LANXESS is on track to establish an effective research and innovation network in China, the company’s most important region for growth.  By offering premium and innovative products and collaborating with customers to enhance their products, LANXESS helps customers to win and maintain leading positions in their respective markets.


Wuxi

Already in 1997, the Leather business unit has inaugurated in Wuxi a technical laboratory and one of the largest research and development centers for leather products in the Asia-Pacific region.

In 2007, the Semi-Crystalline Products business unit has opened a Research and Development Testing Center (RDTC). One of the center’s key tasks is to speed up the development of new polyamide and polyester grades by means of extensive material testing. This will not only benefit customers in Asia but also all other international customers. The RDTC works closely together with the product development department at the Dormagen site in Germany. They are connected online via a laboratory information management system which enables the direct and rapid exchange of test jobs and results.

In 2008 the Material Protection Products business unit has opened a microbiology test lab in Wuxi to strengthen its competitiveness in the biocides business in Asia. The new lab will help customers to select the right biocidal products and advise them on any related technical issues and problems.


Shanghai


Opened in 2005, the Technical Rubber Products business unit operates a multifunctional Technical Center in Shanghai. The center is a focal point for product application and development as well as intensive customer and LANXESS employee training for China and the Asia Pacific region.


Beijing


The Performance Butadiene Rubbers business unit has entered into a cooperation agreement with the Beijing Research & Design Insititute of Rubber Industry in 2007. Among other things, this highly acclaimed institute will help LANXESS to sound out and tap into the fastest-growing tire market in the world. It will also support LANXESS customers in the application of high-performance polybutadiene rubber and solution styrene butadiene rubber in China.


Qingdao


In Qingdao, China, LANXESS has opened a center for rubber research in 2008. The research center for the rubber sector cooperates with the National Key Laboratory for Rubber and Plastics of the Qingdao University of Science and Technology and is located in its direct vicinity.
