Shanghai - German specialty chemicals company LANXESS plans to more than double production capacities at its plant in Liyang, Jiangsu province, in order to meet increasing demand in China. The expansion of the plant, which manufactures trimethylolpropane (TMP), trimethylolpropane dimer (Di-TMP) and calcium formate (Cafo), will be undertaken in two phases. The first phase is scheduled for completion by the end of 2010 and the second phase by the end of 2011.

A prerequisite of the expansion is the installation of new technology in the wastewater treatment facility belonging to the plant. This facility, which was inaugurated at a ceremony attended by local officials today, will help further reduce the plant’s emissions. LANXESS applied its advanced production processes based on German technology to create an environmentally friendly production site.

On September 1, 2009, LANXESS completed its acquisition of the chemical business and production assets of Jiangsu Polyols Chemical Co. Ltd.  Subsequently, the legal entity LANXESS (Liyang) Polyols Co, Ltd was founded. The site is operated by the LANXESS Basic Chemicals business unit and the products TMP, Di-TMP and Cafo are used in lubricants, paints, coatings and construction applications. The Basic Chemicals business unit belongs to the LANXESS Advanced Intermediates segment, which posted sales of EUR 1.104 billion in 2009.
