Intelligence Invigorates Innovation, Quality Works for Life

June 16, 2017, Shanghai – Recently, the specialty chemical company LANXESS has organized the Open-to-Public Day events themed as “Intelligence Invigorates Innovation, Quality Works for Life” in its Qingdao and Liyang sites.

LANXESS’s Open-to-Public Day this year focused on the teachers & students group. On June 2, the Open-to-Public Day of LANXESS Qingdao, the site received nearly 150 teachers and students from Qingdao Fenyang Road Primary School; on the Open-to-Public Day of LANXESS Liyang, which was June 16, around 250 teachers and students from Liyang Nandu Junior High School participated in the event. They visited LANXESS’s plants in Qingdao and Liyang, while the experts of LANXESS also delivered chemical and safety classes to them.

The chemical experiment class allowed the students to use the chemical experiment kits developed by LANXESS. Under the guidance of LANXESS experts, they completed the water solubility experiment with different substances and acquired the first-hand chemical experience. At the safety knowledge class, the HSE experts from LANXESS taught the children about the hidden dangers in everyday life, how to use electricity and gas safely, and how to escape in emergency, which was actively responded by the children. In addition, during the event, the students also had the chance to walk through the LANXESS headquarters in Cologne, Germany, LANXESS Cultural Center and other intriguing places through the advanced VR technology.

General Manager of LANXESS Rhein Chemie (Qingdao) Ltd. Fang Zongxian said: “We are pleased to display LANXESS’s innovative and environmentally friendly products and production processes to the teachers and students by such activities, letting the public to closely get in touch with chemistry.” General Manager of LANXESS (Liyang) Polyols Co., Ltd. Chen Biao also said: “We welcome more friends to join in the Open-to-Public Day. It is a channel for us to know about public’s expectations so as to raise our management level and image.”

Since 2012, LANXESS has carried out Open-to-Public Day events in many of its production sites, including Changzhou, Wuxi and Qingdao, and invited altogether nearly one thousand residents, teachers & students, industry professionals, media, etc. to the enterprise. On one hand, Open-to-Public Day welcomes the public to come to LANXESS, and know about LANXESS’s products, services, manufacturing, operation and cultural philosophy; on the other hand, LANXESS thus gets the opportunity to learn about their suggestions in order to propel itself towards higher quality, higher efficiency and higher sustainability.

LANXESS has long been engaged in the Responsibility Care initiative, and integrated it into every aspect of the company operation. Apart from using renewable raw material resources, and adopting innovative production processes to mitigate the impact on the environment as much as possible, LANXESS constantly improves its health, safety and environmental performance and develops environmental products and solutions, dedicating itself to bring Quality Works to our daily life.

Founded in 1995, the LANXESS Rhein Chemie (Qingdao) Ltd. has been providing rubber additives and lubricant additives for the automobile industry and industrial lubricants. One of its major product lines – the rubber processing agents are all produced by environmentally friendly materials, the majority of which are renewable materials. For example, Rhein Chemie Aktiplast PP and Rhein Chemie Aktiplast T, which have been extensively utilized in tire and manufacturing industries, are able to significantly reduce the moony viscosity of customers’ sizing materials, thus mitigating the energy consumption and mechanical wear during the mixing process. Applied to green tire formulas, Rhein Chemie Aktiplast ST and Rhein Chemie Aflux 37 can effectively improve the dispersity of white carbon black and the quality of customers’ sizing materials to reduce the rolling resistance and heat build-up, lowering the fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emission.

Rhein Chemie Rhenogran TP-50, a product manufactured in the Qingdao site, can meet the current requirement of nitrosamine free curing of the auto industry. Packages for water miscible cutting fluids Additin RC 5710 adopts the long-life antibiosis formula, which is capable of extending the work lifetime of metal processing fluid, thereby greatly inhibits the generation of waste water.

The LANXESS (Liyang) Polyols Co., Ltd. was established in 2009 in Liyang, Jiangsu and operated by the LANXESS Advanced Industrial Intermediates business unit. It focuses on the production of TMP, Di-TMP and Cafo, which assist the customers in the manufacturing of environmental coatings. For their superior performance in reducing the emission of VOC, the company has received strong support and encouragement from the government.

The Liyang factory is also equipped with off-gas incinerators, not only eliminating the emission of process exhaust, but also substantially saving the energy and cutting the emission of greenhouse gases. The advanced processing facilities and sewage treatment processes first lessen the production of sewage, and then make sure the treated and discharged waste water meets the strictest criteria.

Besides Open-to-Public Day, LANXESS provides scholarship to hundreds of college and high school students, donates electronic equipment and books to the migrant workers’ children of Qinghe School in Nanchang District, Wuxi, and endows the chemical experiment kits designed by LANXESS to various primary schools, with a hope to learn basic chemical knowledge and stimulate their interest in the chemical field.

LANXESS has been jointly holding the “Safety, Environment, Health” seminars with China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation (CPCIF) since 2014, where it shares its experience and best practices in environmental protection, occupational health and safety with upstream & downstream enterprises of the industry chain and relevant government departments.

Responsibility Care is the global chemical industry’s unique initiative to improve health, environmental and safety performance. Responsibility Care is guiding world leading chemical companies to keep advancing beyond established achievements and formulate a code of conduct at a higher level. Now it is practiced by over 50 national chemical businesses and industry associations.
