LANXESS and CPCIF celebrate Green Rubber Day in China

Shanghai,November 18 – LANXESS will continue its successful concept started in Macao in 2010 and host the 2nd China Rubber Day on December 2. The high-caliber event to be held in Beijing will serve as a platform to exchange ideas and discover more about high-performance rubber in meeting the challenge of green mobility. This year, the company hosts the event alongside with China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation (CPCIF).

Around 300 representatives of authorities, industry, academia and media will join this world-class event. They will focus on the topics including the mega trend of mobility, the market potential of high-tech synthetic rubber, the role this versatile product plays in spearheading innovation, and how the industry can rise to the challenges of increasing demand for green mobility.

The conference has gained full support from China Rubber Industry Association, China Synthetic Rubber Association, German Institute for Rubber Research, Beijing University of Chemical Technology and Qingdao University of Science and Technology, which are also the partners of the event.

“With the upcoming Green Rubber Day, we are continuing the program of events we began in Germany in 2009 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of LANXESS’ invention of synthetic rubber,” said Martin Kraemer, CEO of LANXESS Greater China. “Along with our partners, we are to present this world-class event as another constructive forum to share ideas and create greater awareness of high-performance rubber and its contribution to green tires.”

Statistics show tires are responsible for between 20 and 30 percent of a car's fuel consumption and around 24 percent of its CO₂emissions. On the whole, road traffic accounts for 18 per cent of global CO₂emissions. It therefore comes as no surprise that legal regulations for cutting the CO₂emissions of vehicles – such as the forthcoming EU tire labeling regulation – start with tires.

“Using a green tire that has been produced with high-performance rubber can decrease the fuel consumption of a car by 5 to 7 % – and consequently reduce the emission of CO₂,” said Kraemer. LANXESS has commissioned a study on green tires. The results, which offer an insight into China’s tire industry and its development trend, will be shared during the occasion.

“It is with great delight that CPCIF is to host this world-class event,” said Mr. Li Shousheng, executive vice chairman of CPCIF. “Aimed at fostering discussions about how to sustainably meet the challenges of increasing mobility in China, the conference will focus on hot topics such as green tires. China as a major global automobile market and key tire manufacturing country has no doubt a keen interest in the subject.”
