LANXESS Listed on The Corporate Social Responsibility Ranking in China

December 15, 2016, Shanghai – The award ceremony of "2016 Yicai The Corporate Social Responsibility Ranking in China" was officially held in Shanghai with the theme of “Benevolent Business·Innovation Driving Force". At the annual ceremony, the award winners were revealed after selection for nearly six months. As the world's leading specialty chemicals company, LANXESS was listed in the ranking, and won the "Best Practice” award for its outstanding achievements in corporate social responsibility.

LANXESS has long been devoted to supporting the development of our customers, protecting the environment and improving the life quality of the public through providing excellent solutions and expertise. On this basis, the company has accumulated excellent practical experience in incorporating economic, social and environmental responsibilities into Corporate Responsibility.

Environmental responsibility has been infiltrated into the development process of new products of LANXESS, which can be best proved at the end of September this year when LANXESS won "China Automobile and Parts Industry Development and Innovation" award with its “body insert” technology. Compared to 100% steel parts, the "body insert" technology significantly reduces the weight of a vehicle while enhancing the protection for passengers. It is known that a vehicle will reduce fuel consumption by 4% per weight reduction of 50 kg, carbon dioxide emissions by 0.5 kg per 100 km.

During production process, LANXESS actively implements environmental protection tasks, while setting up energy-saving and emission reduction targets for each business units, in order to minimize environmental impact during production. It also takes appropriate measures in every links from production, transportation to waste disposal. LANXESS has successfully decreased its greenhouse gas emissions by approx. 17% between 2010 and 2015, and has achieved the company's goal of climate protection for 2015. LANXESS Group voluntarily set a new climate protection goal at the beginning of this year, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2025 compared with 2015.

At the same time, LANXESS actively undertakes the responsibility of public benefits. Over the past decade, LANXESS has offered scholarships to several hundred students in universities and high school, such as donating computers, electronic devices and books to migrant workers’ children in Wuxi Nanchang Qinghe School. LANXESS also initiated“Clean Water for Better Life” University Students Research Competition, aims at encouraging college students to present their original and inspiring proposals to protect water resources and solve water related issues. From 2014, LANXESS held several open day activities at its site communities to share its efforts in environmental protection, safety with the public. LANXESS donated LANXESS chemical kit to a number of primary schools, aiming to help students learning basic chemistry knowledge and to explore chemistry.

LANXESS also committed to provide an energetic working environment, pay attention to every employees to develop them and to improve them. At LANXESS, there is a wide range of programs regarding learning and development. Besides the traditional classroom training, outdoor team activities, there are also learning methods such as development center, coaching and feedback, task-based learning. What’s more, we also set an annual mentor program, which lasts for a year. The mentors consist of the senior managers or technical experts who own experienced, good technical and management skills to train the employees that are lack of experience but with development potential.

 “CBN The Corporate Social Responsibility Ranking in China”, organized by China Business News in 2008, conducted a strict, professional and objective evaluation of the candidate companies and selected the winners. The evaluation system of “Benevolent Business” adopted by the CSR ranking consists of six parts: "Benevolent Kindness" harmonious relationship performance, "Benevolent Love" employee care performance, "Benevolent Morality" environmental responsibility performance, “Benevolent Relief” social benefit performance and “Benevolent Belief” economic responsibility performance. The CSR ranking sets up five awards every year, namely "Outstanding Enterprise", "Cutting-Edge Enterprise", "Best Practice" and "Responsible Innovation". The "Best Practice" award is presented to the enterprise which can best lead and represent the industry in the practice of fulfilling the social responsibilities.
