LANXESS won three CSR awards in one single month
January 28, 2016, Shanghai —— The German specialty chemicals company LANXESS has won three CSR awards within one month thanks to its persistence in corporate social responsibility activities.
On January 22, LANXESS was entitled the “Best Corporate CSR Communication Award” at the 5th China Charity Festival. It is the third CSR award LANXESS received in January following the “2015 Beautiful China CSR Model Award"” and “All-Round Excellence Award during '12th Five-year Plan'”.
“Since LANXESS was established, we have been integrating corporate social responsibility into the company's development strategy. We are devoted to taking our social responsibilities in contributing to the social welfare and actively engaging ourselves in the charity activities,” said Ming Cheng Chien, CEO of LANXESS Greater China said.
LANXESS China has been sparing no efforts in the social welfare. The company supports education, establishing positive public awareness towards chemicals and environmental protection. For example, it strongly supports the “Responsible Care”, holds Public Open Day regularly as well as launch “Diversity & inclusive” initiative among employees to promote equality between different nationalities, gender and ages.
In particular, LANXESS China puts lots of efforts in education. LANXESS China has sponsored more than 300 university and high school students by offering scholarships. LANXESS China also donated self-developed experiment kits to elementary schools, covering more than 5,000 students, to help them learn basic chemistry knowledge and develop their interest in exploring chemistry.
In addition, LANXESS partnered with German Cultural Center Beijing – Goethe Institute China to present scholarships as well as internship programs to support outstanding Chinese students at the Goethe Institute for further education or paving way for a rewarding career after college graduation.
LANXESS Changzhou and Wuxi sites have been sponsoring the students in Suichuan County, Jiangxi Province, one of the state's key poverty alleviation counties for more than 5 years. In January 2015, LANXESS set up a LANXESS Goodwill Primary School in Zhuxi Village, Suichuan County to provide financial support to both students as well as teachers to ensure the kids there could get proper education.
Moreover, as a specialty chemicals company, LANXESS China also spent efforts to solve social problems in alignment with its own business.
In 2015, taking the opportunity of the release of the Action Plan for Preventing and Treatment of Water Pollution, LANXESS and China WTO Tribune jointly organized a research competition themed under “Clean Water for Better Life” to collect water research proposals and solutions to water challenges. The research process lasted over 4 months while university students actively carried out projects to explore new solutions for water conservation. LANXESS not only funded the researches, but also provided technical support and consultation. The project was a good example of LANXESS’ efforts to combine social issues, higher education and enterprise development together.
In 2016, LANXESS China will continue to hold the second LANXESS China University Students Research Competition and will spread the competition to involve more universities.
“In fact, we have always adhere great importance to education. The future belongs to younger generations. The continued development of highly qualified young professionals ensures a strategic resource for enterprises in the region,” commented Ming Cheng Chien.
China Charity Festival, initiated in 2011, is one of China's most influential charity events of the year. The event provides a platform of sharing and communication with the goal of building a culture of social welfare. The winners were selected through an extensive social survey, jointly recommendation by media, institutions and associations.
