LANXESS Young Euro Classic China Concert 2012

Firm commitment to Sino-German talents exchange and local culture promotion

September 28, Shanghai - German specialty chemicals company LANXESS is bringing the Young Euro Classic China concert to China’s audience for the sixth consecutive year. This year’s tour will form a part of the ceremonial act celebrating 40 years of diplomatic relations between China and Germany.

Following the successful series of performances the Orchestra has given in previous years, the concert once more will gather together the most talented young musicians from both China and Germany. Under the leadership of the renowned Chinese conductor, maestro Tang Muhai, the LANXESS Young Euro Classic Orchestra China-Germany will perform both classical and contemporary dance and music of the highest quality.

The repertoire features String Quartet No.13 by Ludwig van Beethoven, A Midsummer Night's Dream by Felix Mendelssohn and two world premiers by young talented composers. National Youth Ballet, founded by well-known ballet dancer John Neumeier, will also be involved in an innovative performance.

“As the founder and initiator of Young Euro Classic Orchestra China-Germany, we are committed to promoting the cultural exchange between the two nations, which both boast brilliant art pieces,” commented Dr. Axel C. Heitmann, Chairman of the Board of Management. “We are pleased that we could do our part to encourage talented young people in the arts and facilitate artistic development.”

The tour starts from performance at National Centre for the Performing Arts, Beijing on October 11, attended by Guido Westerwelle, Germany’s Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs, Yang Jiechi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of China and Dr. Michael Schaefer, German Ambassador to China.

The orchestra will be brought to Changzhou Grand Theatre on October 13 in celebrating LANXESS’ largest investment in China to date – ground-breaking of the world’s largest ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) plant in Changzhou. LANXESS is already active at the Changzhou site, with the construction of its largest leather chemicals plant in China. The finale of the tour will be at Shanghai Concert Hall, on October 15.

“China is one of the most important growth markets for LANXESS. Our commitment to China goes beyond serving local customers with premium products and extends to cultural and educational sectors,” said Martin Kraemer, CEO LANXESS Greater China. “We feel responsible for contributing to the local cultural and social environment and have been supporting social responsibility and cultural projects in China.”

Since 2007, when LANXESS introduced Young Euro Classic into China, the event has magnetized the most talented young musicians from Germany and China to perform in China’s major cities every year. The Beijing performance in 2007 was attended by Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and German Chancellor Angela Merkel in a special event celebrating the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Germany.
