As a part of the company’s celebration of the International Year of Chemistry (IYC) 2011, LANXESS hosted its first Science Day in China on October 15 2011 at its Qingdao sites. By opening its doors to the public and demonstrating some hands-on experiments, the specialty chemicals company showcased how advanced chemical sciences help improve the quality of people’s lives.
About 80 participants, including community representatives, students from Qingdao University of Science and Technology (QUST), and employees and their families, attended the whole-day event and explored the fascinating world of chemistry.
During the Science Day, winners of the LANXESS chemistry experiment design competition were announced. The team led by Wu Tingting, a student from the college of chemistry and molecular engineering of QUST, won the excellence award with the project on waste water treatment solution. The competition, co-hosted by QUST, has received more than 100 pieces of experiment design works since it has been kicked off in July.
Apart from that, participants were also offered guided tours to LANXESS sites - Rhein Chemie Qingdao manufacturing site and labs, as well as LANXESS Rubber Research Center Qingdao (RRCQ), experiencing the modern production lines and one of the world’s most advanced rubber centers.
