LANXESS supports an environmenal initiative for children in Shanghai

LANXESS celebrated Children’s Day on June 1 2006 and the World Environmental Protection Day on June 5 by supporting a local children’s event in Putuo district, Shanghai.

On June 1st 2006, the “LANXESS Cup” contest was held in the Juvenile World of Putuo district in Northwest Shanghai. The aim of the event was to educate children on the importance of environmental protection and responsibility. With a theme of “Green Baby, Happy June 1st”, and jointly organized by LANXESS and two local educational organizations, the contest was open to all kindergarten age children in Putuo district.

The contest was enjoyed not only by the children themselves but also by teachers, parents and the organizers. Various performances, such as dancing, theater, children’s ballet and a green fashion show helped the participants better understand the importance of environmental protection.

Dozens of teams from over 30 kindergartens competed for the “LANXESS Cup”. The twelve winning teams emerged victorious due to their creative ideas and vivid performances as they showcased their understanding of environmental protection. The audience was composed of parents, teachers and government officials from the local education and environmental protection agencies.

Dr. Haselhorst, Managing Director of LANXESS Shanghai Pigments, acted as the LANXESS coordinator for the contest and was deeply touched by the eager participation of the children. During his address on behalf of LANXESS at the award ceremony he professed, “We can all feel secure in the future thanks to the creativity and joy of expression from our children, especially their strong concern for the environment.” He felt proud that LANXESS could support such an event and contribute to environmental responsibility and protection.
