LANXESS Wuxi supports employees during the city’s recent water crisis resulting from the huge amount of blue algae in Lake Taihu.
On May 29th, a water crisis broke out in Wuxi city. The drinking water supply was cut off due to the rampant, foul-smelling blue-green algae in Taihu Lake, the main drinking water source for the city. Residents had to buy bottled or purified water for drinking, cooking and even bathing and area supermarkets quickly sold out.
With the benefit of our employees in mind, LANXESS Wuxi management immediately secured about 600 bottles of purified drinking water for our Wuxi staff and helped with the delivery to each family on the very first day of the emergency. In addition, 300 sets of Kitchen Drinking Water Purifiers were prepared for every employee and long-term contractor of LANXESS, with the solid support from LANXESS HQ and Greater China Management. Thanks to our rapid response, there has been no loss of working days for any single employee in the company due to the water crisis, and no loss either for employee family members or long-term contractors. Furthermore, employees also took the initiative to help each other by using their spare time and holidays to install the purifying devices.
LANXESS Wuxi is always committed to comprehensive environmental protection and maximum safety, and to achieve this, we seek to develop environmentally friendly products and minimize environmental impact. During the water crisis, LANXESS again took the lead in caring for our employees. Many other companies in the Wuxi New District have followed our lead in terms of protecting the environment. “LANXESS demonstrates a strong team spirit binding our company and its employees”, Dr. Dong Qi Hu, General Manager of LANXESS Wuxi Site said, “LANXESS has again proven itself a considerate and responsible employer, and we are very proud to work in a company with such a strong commitment”.
