LANXESS: Stable business development in the first quarter of 2019 despite economic downturn

Shanghai – May 15, 2019 – Specialty chemicals company LANXESS has made a solid start to the new fiscal year despite the weakening economy. In the first quarter of 2019, EBITDA pre exceptionals rose by 1.9 percent to EUR 275 million compared with EUR 270 million in the strong previous-year quarter. Effective biosecurity barrier controls essential for the prevention and control of African Swine Fever (ASF) and Avian Influenza (AI)

Shanghai – May 13, 2019 – with two of the most feared epidemic diseases, African Swine Fever (ASF) and Avian Influenza (AI) spreading rapidly across China and Southeast Asia, specialty chemicals company, LANXESS, have emphasized the key role biosecurity barrier controls must play in helping to control their spread. “Disease prevention and control must always be the prime focus,” said Stephan Cho, Head of Market Segment Disinfection in the Material Protection Products business unit (MPP), at LANXESS. “Instead of waiting for a disease challenge to happen, producers must take steps to build robust protocols that prioritize hygiene. Biosecurity barrier controls, utilizing proven effective biocides, are the greatest weapons swine and poultry producers have in helping to prevent the spread and introduction of ASF and AI.”

Cost-effective alternatives to polyamide 66

Shanghai – April 12, 2019 – The specialty chemicals company LANXESS is expanding the new polyamide 6 Durethan P product range with the addition of two highly reinforced material variants that can be used, among other things, as an economical alternative to polyamide 66 materials. Durethan BKV50PH2.0 and Durethan BKV60PH2.0EF have short glass fiber content levels of 50 and 60 percent by weight respectively. The “P” in the product name stands for “Performance” and indicates the high fatigue resistance of these materials against pulsating loads. This means that these grades are many times more resistant to cyclical mechanical loads than standard products with the same glass fiber content. Potential applications include supporting structures for electrical and electronics modules in batteries for electric vehicles, engine oil pans, oil filter modules and end caps, engine and chassis mounts, damper pistons, and seat shells for passenger cars. In mechanical engineering, the new materials are suitable for dynamically highly stressed components such as gear wheels.

Achieving flame-retardant properties without red phosphorus

Shanghai – February 22, 2019 – Red phosphorus is an established flame-retardant additive for polyamide 66. Even small amounts of it are enough to provide thermoplastics with good fire-resistant characteristics with scarcely any impact on the mechanical properties. However, such compounds have recently undergone significant price increases, as both polyamide 66 base resin and red phosphorus have become more expensive. Consequently, specialty chemicals company LANXESS is noticing growing demand for high-performance alternative materials based on polyamide 6 and 66 that feature flame-retardant characteristics in other ways, particularly in the electrical/electronic and IT industries. “Our range includes suitable compounds with halogen-free flame-retardant packages that exhibit similarly effective flame-retardant properties and in some cases are even better. The polyamide 6 compounds in particular boast an excellent price-performance ratio,” explains Alexander Radeck, application developer in the High Performance Materials (HPM) business unit. Through its HiAnt service, LANXESS helps customers to meet the standards defined, for example, in requirement specifications and delivery specifications when they switch materials.
