First all-plastic brake pedal for battery-electric sports car

Shanghai – May 11, 2020 – In a battery-electric sports car, every gram of weight counts. That is why the first mass-production vehicle in this segment is using an all-plastic brake pedal. This safety-critical component has been developed by BOGE Elastmetall GmbH, a global provider of vibration technology and plastics applications for the automotive industry, in close cooperation with the LANXESS High Performance Materials (HPM) business unit. It owes its high mechanical strength and very low weight to a thermoplastic composite design. Its structure comprises an insert made from Tepex dynalite, a continuous-fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composite from LANXESS, and several tapes.



LANXESS robust in first quarter of 2020 despite coronavirus crisis

Shanghai – April 29, 2020 – The new barrel storage facility for the world’s northernmost gin and whisky distillery appears at first glance to be clad in old, charred wooden planks. In reality, however, the facade is constructed from textured concrete pigmented with a jet-black pigment. The facade, which won the Finnish Concrete Architecture Award, is colored with inorganic Bayferrox pigments from the specialty chemicals company LANXESS. This stylish building, owned by the Kyrö Distillery Company, was designed by Helsinki-based Avanto Architects (Avanto Arkkitehdit Oy).



LANXESS donates one million liters of disinfectant solution

Shanghai – April 10, 2020 – Specialty chemicals company LANXESS is donating ten metric tons of its highly effective disinfectant Rely+On Virkon to hospitals, authorities and public institutions in 13 countries around the world. The powder disinfectant is diluted with water on site and is sufficient for one million liters of disinfectant solution. It can be used to disinfect hard surfaces and equipment, for example in hospitals.



Tepex reinforces child seat headrest

LANXESS achieves full-year target for 2019 despite challenging environment

Shanghai – March 19, 2020 – Specialty chemicals company LANXESS had a successful fiscal year 2019 in an increasingly challenging economic environment. EBITDA pre exceptionals increased by 3.3 percent to EUR 1.019 billion. As guided, the earnings came in roughly in the middle of the range of EUR 1.00 billion to EUR 1.05 billion. In the previous year, the company generated earnings of EUR 986 million.



Turning water bottles into laptop covers

Shanghai – March 4, 2020 – LANXESS sees pioneering recycling concepts as the key to boosting its competitiveness with sustainable materials from closed material cycles. The most recent example of this approach is a new product range that the LANXESS subsidiary Bond-Laminates is currently developing for its Tepex-branded continuous-fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composites. Half of the matrix for the new semi-finished products consists of recyclates originating from the recycling of reusable polycarbonate water bottles. “Our primary target application for these products includes laptop covers and housings for smartphones, tablets, e-books, and cellphones,” says Dr. Dirk Bonefeld, head of Marketing & Sales Consumer Electronics, Sports and Industry at Bond-Laminates.



Vegan LANXESS processing promoter ensures CO2 savings in tire production

Shanghai – February 28, 2020 – Specialty chemicals company LANXESS has added a plant-based raw material variant to its Aktiplast PP product range. These processing promoters for polymer blends are used in the production of tires and all kinds of technical rubber articles. Aktiplast PP-veg, which is based on renewable raw materials, was developed specifically in response to a customer requirement from Asia. In this way, the LANXESS Rhein Chemie business unit aims to enable rubber processors to reduce their CO2 footprint. An international tire manufacturer from Europe has already expressed great interest.



LANXESS Donates Disinfectants to Hubei to Fight Coronavirus

Shanghai – February 17, 2020 – The outbreak of the novel coronavirus COVID-19 has made epidemic disease control a task of top priority in China. To help fight the epidemic, German specialty chemicals company LANXESS announced the donation of 1 ton of its highly effective Rely+On Virkon disinfectant to hospitals in Wuhan and two surrounding cities. The donation of the high level disinfectant product arrived in Hubei on February 16 thanks to the optimization of production capacities at the production plant in the U.K. and a concerted effort of employees around the world to help quickly. One ton of Rely+On Virkon can be diluted into 100,000 liters of disinfectant solution for use at a ratio of 1:100.



Tepex dynalite from LANXESS for innovative lightweight design project

Shanghai – December 16, 2019 – The endless fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composite material Tepex dynalite from LANXESS has made a major contribution to the success of the FuPro project of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). At the international trade fair for mobility 4.0 “eMove-360° Europe” in Munich, Germany, the project received the Gold Materialica Award in the “Surface & Technology” category. The abbreviation FuPro stands for “Design and process development for functionalized multi-component structures with complex hollow profiles”.



LANXESS to become climate neutral by 2040

Shanghai – December 9, 2019 – Specialty chemicals company LANXESS has set itself an ambitious climate protection target. By 2040, the Group intends to become climate neutral and eliminate its greenhouse gas emissions from around 3.2 million metric tons of CO2e today. Already by 2030, LANXESS aims to cut its emissions by 50 percent compared to the current level to around 1.6 million metric tons of CO2e.

LANXESS with stable development also in third quarter

Shanghai – November 14, 2019 – Specialty chemicals company LANXESS performed well again in the third quarter of 2019 – despite further deterioration of the economic environment. As expected, earnings in the third quarter were only slightly weaker than in the previous year. At EUR 267 million, EBITDA pre exceptionals was 3.6 percent down on the prior year’s figure of EUR 277 million.
