LANXESS: Multiaxial, reinforced Tepex for backseat load-through of an offroad vehicle

August 31th, 2017, Shanghai –Tepex dynalite continuous-fiber-reinforced, semi-finished thermoplastic composites are now finding new applications in vehicle interiors. One example is the backseat system of an offroad vehicle made by a European automobile manufacturer. The center backseat is equipped with a load-through that enables the backrest of each seat to be folded down individually. This load-through component is produced by shaping and back-injecting Tepex dynalite. “The part marks the entry of this composite material into the lightweight design of backseat systems and is further evidence of its enormous potential in series production applications,” says Henrik Plaggenborg head of Technical Marketing & Business Development Tepex Automotive.



LANXESS pigments used in Formula E

August 22th, 2017, Shanghai – Bayferrox inorganic pigments from global specialty chemicals company brought color to the race course at the Hydro-Québec Montréal ePrix, the racing category for electric-powered cars. The race took place in Montréal, Canada, at the end of July 2017. The Inorganic Pigments (IPG) business unit supplied nearly 37 metric tons of charcoal-colored Bayferrox 340 pigments to Canadian pre-cast concrete producer Beton Brunet based in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Québec, for the construction of 5.5 kilometers of concrete barriers that lined both sides of the 2.75 kilometer race course.



LANXESS at ACLE 2017 with sustainable solutions for the leather industry

August 18th, 2017, Shanghai – “We are committed to sustainability in terms of more efficient production, by-product material recycling and reduced emissions,” states Luis López-Remón, head of the Leather business unit (LEA) at LANXESS. August 16, 2017, Shanghai - Specialty chemicals company LANXESS has added new, water-based dyestuffs to its portfolio of leather finishing products. The Levaderm WB range includes the color shades yellow, orange, red, bordeaux, blue, navy blue, green, light brown, medium brown, black brown, gray and black. They are suitable for spray or throughfeed dyeing, effect, base and top coats. “The new Levaderm WB range is characterized by high yield, pure brilliance, very good leveling power and excellent fastness properties,” says Dr. Thomas Brackemeyer, head of the Organic Leather Chemicals business line in LANXESS’s Leather business unit (LEA).

Extremely low warpage and particularly high flame retardance

July 21, 2017, Shanghai – Specialty chemicals company LANXESS has developed a new compound called Pocan AF4130 in collaboration with HELLA KGaA Hueck & Co., based in Lippstadt, Germany. It serves as a housing material for a battery management unit (BMU) and two cell monitoring units (CMU). The blend of polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) and acrylic ester-styrene-acrylonitrile (ASA) contains 30 percent by weight glass fibers and a halogen-based flame retardance package. “The particular advantages of the material are its extremely low warpage and shrinkage, combined with its high flame retardance. We see great potential for application in precision components for vehicle battery systems,” says Marc Marbach, head of Sales Segments E&E in the LANXESS High Performance Materials (HPM) business unit. It took just two-and-a-half years to go from the initial idea to extensive testing and finally to use in full-scale production.



LANXESS expands range of membranes for reverse osmosis

July 17, 2017, Shanghai – Specialty chemicals company LANXESS is expanding its range of membrane elements for reverse osmosis (RO). The new Lewabrane RO ULP line has three product grades available immediately for water treatment. They display higher water permeability than the standard elements, while offering the same high level of rejection of critical substances. The operating pressure required in the pressure vessel is 40 percent lower, which reduces operating costs. Furthermore, the new membranes are a good option for removing trace elements from wastewater and drinking water.



Successful practical test

July 13, 2017, Shanghai – Reverse osmosis membrane elements from specialty chemicals company LANXESS have successfully completed a year-long practical test in Germany's largest industrial water treatment plant. The new element grades with ASD feed spacers impressed ZellstoffStendal GmbH based in Arneburg with their performance and consistently high level of rejection. Optimized for applications in brackish water, these Lewabrane-branded elements are characterized by very low energy consumption (LE = low energy) and high fouling resistance (FR = fouling-resistant).
