The debottlenecking project increases the sustainable output from 10,000 to 14,000 MT per year.

April 24, 2017, Shanghai – Specialty chemicals company LANXESS has successfully completed the acquisition of U.S. company Chemtura, one of the world’s leading suppliers of flame retardant and lubricant additives earlier than originally expected effective April 21, 2017.



New finishing agents for high-quality leather

Shanghai – The Leather business unit at specialty chemicals company LANXESS is expanding its portfolio for the leather industry with the addition of HYDRHOLAC CL-20 Emulsion and OPTI-MATT AD-20 Duller. The two new binders for finishing high-quality automotive leather were developed by The Dow Chemical Company and are currently marketed by LANXESS. In this relationship, Dow is responsible for the research, development and production of a number of specialty chemicals, while LANXESS is in charge of marketing, sales and comprehensive technical customer service. “Following extensive testing during the evaluation phase, the new binders were rated positively by manufacturers of automotive leather,” says Thomas Brackemeyer, head of business line Organic Leather Chemicals at LANXESS, who adds: “We see already high interest in the market.”

LANXESS is leading the way in this field starting with its own production facilities. For example, the volume of process wastewater produced relative to product output has fallen by six percent Group-wide in the last five years.



LANXESS subsidiary presents large-area structural part in thin-wall design

Shanghai – With the help of continuous-fiber-reinforced, semi-finished thermoplastic composites, structural parts with a large surface area can be designed to be very thin and therefore lightweight. They can also be equipped with numerous functions, as demonstrated by a new module rack, only one millimeter thick, for the S-Class convertible from Mercedes-Benz. Various controllers are mounted on this component. The rack is fabricated in a hybrid molding process from Tepex dynalite 102-RG600(2)/47 %, a continuous-fiber-reinforced, semi-finished polyamide 6 composite from LANXESS subsidiary Bond-Laminates GmbH, based in Brilon, Germany.

The extensive product range comprises grades for brackish water and seawater treatment that boast a long service life, good permeate yield, effective salt rejection and low energy requirements. “The Lewabrane brand has established a firm place for itself in the market, not least on account of its high quality and performance properties, which both we and our customers associate with these ‘Made in Germany’ products,” says Jean-Marc Vesselle, head of the Liquid Purification Technologies (LPT) business unit at LANXESS.



Chemtura shareholders approve acquisition by LANXESS

February 6, 2017, Shanghai – Specialty chemicals company LANXESS (FRA: LXS) has taken a significant step forward in the planned acquisition of U.S. chemical company Chemtura (NYSE: CHMT). Chemtura’s shareholders approved the merger at a special meeting in Philadelphia, United States. 99.88 percent of the votes cast were in favor of the merger, representing 81.77 percent of Chemtura’s outstanding common stock. Under the terms of the merger agreement, Chemtura shareholders will receive USD 33.50 for each outstanding share in cash at closing of the transaction.
