Finally, Shanghai Daily presented the 2021 Award for Innovation in Social Governance to LANXESS on January 19, 2022.

“Sustainability has always been firmly rooted in our corporate strategy. These awards affirm LANXESS’ efforts in the fields of environment, social responsibility and innovation. We hope to contribute to the high quality development of the industry by continuously improving our performance in these areas,” Ming Cheng Chien, President of LANXESS Asia-Pacific Region, said.

Promoting sustainable development based on ESG indicators

The 2021 Environmental Responsibility Excellence Award of Jiemian recognizes LANXESS’ contributions to ESG globally. In 2019, the company formally set an active climate protection goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2040, becoming one of the first chemical companies in the world to do so. Pursuing this goal, LANXESS has made clear plans of action, involving implementing projects for deep cuts of emissions, promoting the decoupling of economic growth and carbon emissions, and boosting technology and process innovation.

Under these plans of action, LANXESS will significantly reduce its emissions and neutralize the remaining emissions through offsetting measures. Moreover, the specialty chemicals company also committed to reducing water withdrawals by 15 percent from its production sites which located in the area of the water shortage by 2023. LANXESS scored particularly well in MSCI, CDP and Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) in the areas of environmental management, corporate governance and business ethics as well as eco-efficiency. These achievement are based on the climate strategy, the well-formulated principles of corporate governance and the robust efforts in the field of safety.

Contributing to Shanghai becoming a science and technology innovation center

The 2021 Award for Innovation in Social Governance by Shanghai Daily recognizes LANXESS’ Asia Pacific Application Development Center (AADC) project.

In March 2020, LANXESS announced that the AADC will be located at Shanghai Chemical Industry Park (SCIP), providing innovative solutions to China and Asia. During construction, the project was challenged by the COVID-19 pandemic and an extremely long rainy season. In close cooperation with SCIP, LANXESS overcame all challenges and the AADC opened its doors on June 18, 2021. As the first project to start operations at INNOGREEN Shanghai International Chemical New Materials Innovation Center, the AADC is contributing to Shanghai’s goal of becoming a science and technology innovation center with global influence.
